Last night I could not sleep a wink after watching the documentary "Sand and Sorrow" about the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. Every time I closed my eyes I would see the horrific images of men, women, and children tied to trees or shackled together and burned alive. There were pictures of children shot to death lying face down in pools of blood, Old men and women with their hands cuffed around a tree covered in blood as 19, AK47 bullet casings lay 3 feet from their bodies...2 innocent people tied up, 19 shots from a gun that shoots 800 rounds per minute at over 3000 feet per second at point blank range. The murderers are the Sudanese Government-backed militia the "Janjaweed" meaning "Devil on horseback".
Or maybe the reason I couldn't sleep was because all I could think about was how our Government called the atrocities in Darfur genocide in 2004 and 3 years later they have yet to take action and the killing continues.
-Over 400,000 innocent civilians are dead
-3 million are displaced
-3.5 million rely on food aid
The Janjaweed do more than just murder these innocent people and burn down their homes and villages, After the killings they cut out the eyeballs, tongues, & cut off the ears of the victims so they will wonder the afterlife blind, deaf, & mute then they throw the bodies into the wells so the water is poisoned. They also kill the livestock. What we are witnessing is the deliberate targeting of civilians and is without a shadow of a doubt, Genocide. These people have no value for human life.
I urge you to write President Bush and tell him you/we want the Darfur peacekeeping missions fully funded by the end of the year. Send your emails to - Comments@Whitehouse.gov
