Hill of Tara (M3 Motorway Conflict)

The Hill of Tara (Teamhair na Ri "Hill of the King"), located near the River Boyne, is a long low limestone ridge that runs between Navan and Dunshoughlin in county Meath, Leinster, Ireland. The hill contains a number of ancient monuments, and according to tradtion, was the seat of Ard Ri na hEireann, or the High King of Ireland.

For centuries historians worked to uncover Tara's mysteries, and suggested that from the first Celtic influence until the invasion of Richard de Clare in 1169, the Hill of Tara was the island's Political and Spiritual capital. The hill still has very much a spiritual influence and meaning in the Irish heritage.

As of early 2007 the M3 Motorway (pictured above) construction began. It is set to pas directly through the Tara-Skryne Valley.

*This is what the Hill of Tara will look like After the construction!

This development is intensely controversial and on Sunday September 23, 2007 over 1500 people met on the Hill of Tara to take part in a human sculpture (pictured below) representing a harp and spelling out the words "SAVE TARA VALLEY" as a call for the rerouting of the M3 Motorway away from Tara Valley.

*Isn't it Beautiful when people come together to make a difference!

We all must ban together in the international community to help Save Tara Valley. Could you imagine the U.S. Government trying to build a highway through the Grand Canyon? We wouldn't have it!

We can do anything if we all ban together!

I will be posting more on the Hill of Tara soon.

To help make a difference, check out some of the links I have posted to the right of the page.

Thanks to all who are helping to Save Tara Valley,

-Zak
